Recommended tires for a 1995 Pontiac Trans Am?

I am looking for suggestions for tires. I plan on shopping at Discount Tire, but would be open to other store options. More importantly I am looking for suggestions on tires. I want a good gripping tire with good performance, but I also don't want to pay too much (yeah I know). I drive aggressively and like go from stops in a hurry. The last tires I had were BF Goodrich T/A KDW's. I bought the car with these tires on them, and have not been overly impressed. The tires are about 2 years old, and while they do have some tread left they don't seem to have any grip. I spin the tires constantly, sometimes when I don't even mean to. And driving in the rain is practically a death trap. I was told my rims are from a recent year Corvette Z06, the tire size with this rim is 265/40 18. What is a suggestion for a good priced high quality tire, and I would be willing to alter the size a little to save on price like to 275/35 or something like that. Suggestions?|||i had a 95 trans am LT1

i put a full set of Potenzza tires. they felt really nice.|||P235/55R16 or 245/50R16 size tires. I can get you a price of about $105.00 shipped for a V rated Maxxis tire. www.badboytire.com

|||Get the same size, but go with a softer tire...may wear out sooner. but good grip. I use firestones. but yokohamas are good too.|||dude wider is better but not in the rain so find something in between like some rapters|||look for kuhmo tires and also try tire rack.com|||the way you drive, I don't think you have to worry about new tires, i'd start looking for a new engine. Anyways, about any new tire will be good, the people at discount tire are pretty good about telling you what tires are worth buying and what tires are good enough for the price. After doing a lot of research on tires (i drive a bmw) when I went to discount tire they told me the same exact thing I had been researching. They know their stuff and don't try to screw you over.

Should I buy tires online? is it smart move?

I have two choices.

A.) I can either buy some really nice (high quality) yokohama tires. A set wil cost $200from Discount Tire.com.80k warranty tire. They will deliiver to my door. FREE SHIPPING. I can have a certified mechanic mount and balance them for extra $50 bucks. Total price will be $250 plus tax.

B.) Or I can buy the Primewell(low quality) cheapo tires from Firestone for $200 plus mounting and balancing. 40,000k warranty tire.Total cost $250.

If I bought those same yokohama tires from Firestone, Tire kingdom, or any store..they would cost me $400! This is because when you buy online you get tires for wholesale. I plan on driving my car for another 100k.

The problem is this: If the tire if faulty or breaks down...i can at least drive to the store and havethem replace or fix the tire.

If I buy tires online..if tire is faulty or anything wrong with tire I have to ship the tire back to the online site.

Whats the better deal?|||I don't see why not. Seems like the best way to go because you can read people's reviews beforehand and know for sure you are getting a good tire. Good thing about buying online is the fact that you can look at many different websites and compare prices so you know you are not being ripped off.|||I find that you get so much better customer support with buying online. They have a burden of not being next door, so they go out of the way to make the entire experience much more pleasent for you.

I have a log dedicated to buying tires online, check it out.

I have never had a problem. Can't say anything about the others.|||As someone who works in the tire industry I know the scenario you painted above is an exageration - and it also answers itself so I don't know why you even posted it.|||Always buy from a dealer from your hometown, you will spend more in the long run buying on-line.

Why is Wal-Mart jacking up prices during a recession after they have killed so many smaller stores.?

Is anyone else noticing about a 25%price increase at Wal-Marts. Look at automotive, tires, Compare to discount tire.|||If you really believe they are intentionally raising prices JUST because we're in bad economic times-I can't help you...no business even as clueless as Walmart is anymore would do that. That said, I'm a total tightwad and do most of the shopping for our household. I worked for WM for a few years (plus a few other retailers). If you do see something going up by 25%, it's not the store doing this as much as the producer of the product. The price is then raised at store level as a reflection of the price increase-I'm sure you've heard the saying "passing the cost on to the customer." Retailers prices always have some profit margin built in but to change that margin by much of anything only happens in rare occasions, but again when it does it's only in small amounts-nothing close to the 25% you point out.

By pointing out you've seen this 25% increase in something you obviously know what the old price was. Why not ask a manager about this to see if it's a pricing error or a true jump in price. Heck, with that much of a jump in price why even care...just go get the item somewhere else. Jump on the bandwagon with so many others who are learning Walmart is far from the only game in town with good prices. A good consumer "knows" what a good price is. You obviously know what the price was so now all you have to do is find the same or better price elsewhere and make your purchase. You vote with your dollar and that's the only thing big companies understand at the end of the day.|||In business terms it's called "dumping" and I'm fairly certain that it may be an illegal practice in some countries. Involving selling at lower prices than everyone else until eventually developing a monopolistic competition over the market, this is followed by jacking up prices to "whatever the market will bear", as they say, simply because they can by that point. Standard Oil really set the 'standard' for that I'm afraid. It's a practice which lacks ethics and there should be better laws put in place to guard against it in my opinion. When SONY (Standard Oil of New York) was being persecuted for it, they were able to escape the treason charges simply by claiming that they would stop, and then moving to another state thus changing their business name, where they kept up the practise concealed as Standard Oil of New Jersey, Standard Oil of Ohio, etc. They're still getting away with it actually. But Walmart is the more obvious example of the two. The federal reserve controls the inflation rate by controlling the money supply, inflation being around 2.72% lately, so of course that plays a big part as well. The more money out there in circulation, the less it's worth, therefore prices have to rise to reflect lack of spending power in that money. Things are not going well economically lately, there are many unethical reasons for that but I am keeping hope alive that we're heading for improvements, probably and preferably sooner than later.

Winter tires that are as good as Blizzaks?

Okay, so I am in Chicago where winters last a lifetime.

Meteorologists predict it to start snowing by mid or late November.

I need tires in this size: 195/55/15, I called Firestone, NTB, and Discount Tire Co.

Both Firestone and Discount Tire quoted me ~ $550 - $570 (Lifetime warranty, mounted, tax, disposal, everything) for a set of 3 Blizzaks installed. (NTB wanted near $700 I was like, eff that yo!)

My dad said he'd pay $200 and i pay for the rest (which is very cool of him); however, he said for me to try to find some "off brand" tires. Not to just go with the name Bridgestone because i like their TV ads.

So, what are some cheaper winter tires in either 195/55/15 or 195/60/15 that are as good as Blizzaks if not better, and where can i get them? Much thanks.

****Aditional Details:

-Chicago, IL gets cold and lots of snow

-Car is a 94 Acura Integra LS

-My rims are the 2000 Civic Si rims

-I'd keep my rims, not getting steelies

-Im probably going to do a sweet burnout before getting these tires.

-I do a LOT of highway driving, my college and house are right off I-55. And i have class 4 times a week.

-During summer (or when snow melts) i'll be buying new rims and summer/all season tires for my nice rims, and i'll have my Si Rims with Blizzaks as my "winter" rims/tire combo.

Thanks. :)|||I would go with the Blizzak tires and get them from discount because they have a true warranty that will not be prorated like firestone will do to you and you really are getting a good price..|||Nothing out there as good as the Blizzaks, Michelin x-ice come close, but are more expensive.

Check tirerack.com for their prices.

They list WS 60 Blizzaks for $87/tire and Dunlop Graspix for $74/tire in your size.

Davis County Utah, Where do you shop for tires?

Discount Tire? Which one?

Big O? Which one?

Les Schwab? Which one?

Someplace else? where?

thanks|||I call them all and then go with the best price for the best tire.

Did Discount tire do a good job for me?

I had a flat tire. Towed the car to discount car company. They found a puncture but no nail or anything stuck in the tire. They patched, did a free flat fix. Two days later the same tire started leaking air. I took it to same shop again. They looked at it and told me I have the bad luck of having another puncture right next to the earlier patch. Since they are too close, cannot patch again and the tire cannot be saved. Pressured me to buy a new tire. What do you experts think? Are they trying to sell a new tire rather than fix the puncture? I cannot imagine having two punctures on the same tire in the span of two days right next to each other. Did they do a bad job of patching up in the first instance?

Thanks|||I can't speak for them, but if it were ME fixing it, I'd just buzz the patch off that was put there and then put a new patch on that covers both punctures. How hard could that be? The only reason that would prevent patching a tire would normally be if the hole is in the sidewall-you can't patch those. But if you have two holes very close together and they're in the tread area, why not patch them both? Hmm. Just my .02|||It's possible, but unlikely. Things like that happen, it's a bummer but it happens. I would recommend taking the tire to another shop and getting a second opinion because nobody out here in yahoo-land will be able to actually see the problem.|||I don't think they care enough to upsell you for just 1 tire. There are bigger fish and better profit margins elsewhere if they wanted to rip you off (a fake brake and rotor job for example).

Next time you get tires, get one with a road hazard warranty then bad luck or not, you won't feel ripped off. (costco's hazard warranty is included as part of their package)

2003 VW Passat New Tires?

I have a 2003 VW Passat GLS Front wheel drive. I bought the car used from a VW Dealer in 2006. It came with new tires it was a weird brand that I have never seen before. Not long after I bought it the rubber started to come off my tires in chunks. So I took them to Discount Tire that carried that brand of tires and they offered to replace the tire that was defective or credit me money on all four tires. I took the credit and bought the Goodyear Triple Tread Assurance Tires. Discount Tire installed them and everything seemed great the tires handled awesome in the wintertime I live up in Minnesota by the way. I always was on top of my rotations for the tires. Last month when I went to get them rotated they said I should start looking into getting new tires which I expected because I got about 60,000 miles on them. I was really happy with the good years so I was thinking I would probably get the same ones again. Well today I went to Sam's Club and I thought well while I'm here I will go and see what they charge for the Goodyear tires. When I walk in I ask the guy if they have the Triple Assurance Tires he says yes and ask what type of vehicle are they for. I tell him and he says that they would not mount those tires on my car because they are not designed to support the weight of a European vw car. I said well those are the tires I have on my car right now and he said that if I would go and look at my tires that they would be wore down on a angle and that is true I knew before I went in that the tires were wore on a angle. The guy then recommends me the Dunlop Signature 91H tire. Now that I'm home I have done some research and found that the Dunlop Signature is a Touring tire. I'm hopping to get a tire that is more performance driven then touring. Do you think I should believe the Sam's Club guy? If anyone has any suggestions on what tires would be the best for my car that would be great. Remember they need to also be good in the winter to. Sorry about the long explanation. Thanks for the help Everyone.|||It sounds like the Goodyear's were a good tire. A 2003 passat does require a 91H tire.(91 being the load rating and H the speed rating)VW does extensive testing with tires and anything with a lower rating could be unsafe. You can go higher, but not lower. Tirerack.com is a good source for you to do research on all types of brands.|||and you had them how long of time 60,000 miles did you feel they drove bad or didnt get the miles sure bet he had more Dunlop Signature for a higher price don tbuy tire at off neat shop like sam or walmarts go to a real tire store prices wil be real close you like what you had buy more of them im a tire guy my trade what i say to peopel is cl three places know your size its on driver door sticker ask whats your cheapest tire in that size an dafter they tel you then ask what else you have and that next tire wil be a better longer lasting tire my self prefer a flat looking tread over a rounded edge type an dyou can press down on bear tire if its push in easy its cheap and short life shop for the best or type you like type into searchbox

things like that wil bring up best an d go from there shop a round for prices|||Check out the "Michelin" brand tires. They provide reasonable pricing with no compromising in performance. The Pilot %26amp; Primacy are a couple of subcategories to consider. Sam's may have them, yet Costco carries them for sure. Do a quick search on Costco website, see if you like the tread configuration. As you know, do an alignment, especially if you intend to change all four tires, and always get the size meant for your specific tire rims.|||hhhhhhhh|||Go onto tirerack.com, there are many choices. The nimrod from Sam's is full of horsedung. There is no such thing as a tire not "designed to support the weight of a European vw car." There are domestic cars out there that weigh significantly more than a Passat.

If I put 17/18 rims on my 96 Toyota Tercel DX will I have to get bigger and wider tires? Will they be more $$?

THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP|||You're an idiot if you put anything bigger on your car then intended by the manufactuer. For one, your gas mileage will get worse. Every ounce you add per rim is more work per rotation exponentially for the engine. More work for the engine means more stress on internals, oil, etc. AND its more work for your braking system, primarily for pads and rotors. They are rated to stop a certain amount of force. By adding more weight you are adding more stress to the brakes. You'll burn through them faster. Probably increases your stopping distance too. If you get in an accident it could be used against you. And there is probably 50 other reasons not to do it. My point is, don't do it.|||17 or 18 is the inside diameter of the tire so yes you will have to buy new tires and yes they are more money|||A lot more money, because of the larger non-standard size.

If they will even fit.

Tires - lowest price for 4 195/55/15?

Howdy. What is the lowest price you can find for 4 195/15/15 tires for a GSR Integra. Mail order, at a tire store, with a coupon, whatever. So far I have found Ziex 512s for $326 shipped for Discount tire Direct. Thanks!|||I have to agree with the Stig, if you are looking for the cheapest POS tire, why ask us? Otherwise just go to walmat or less and buy a Falken or Firestone and get a Primewell. Otherwise, if your want a good quality tire, at a good price (around 80 bucks) go to tirerack.com or tirebuyer.com and get one of the following:

General - Exclaim UHP $78.75 (each)

$315.00 (qty. 4)

Kumho - Solus KH16 $82.32 (each)

$329.28 (qty. 4)

You could go with the Fuzion - Touring for a few bucks less.

$264.44 (qty. 4)

But the Generals and the Kumhos are that much better for a couple bucks more.|||Why don't you do your own shopping? Why should we have to do it for you.

BTW - tires are like anything else: you usually get what you pay for (those shitty Falken's for example). Keep that in mind as you select the most important piece of safety equipment on your car.

Isn't $596.29 an outragous price for 3 tires??

hubby is getting 4 new tires and one is free, and it is still costing almost 600.00...... am i crazy or is that nuts, and he went to "discount tire", this is including a 19.00 warrenty on each but still|||Not so much... I drive a big 4x4 truck with huge mud tires and they are about $360 each tire.|||Well not really it depends on what kinda car it is. My dodge neon cost me 198.00 for 2 tires.|||depends on what kind they are and what size they are. some of the new dodge ram trucks with the 20" tires run about $285 each. and the run flats on the toyota minivans are expensive too. you play, you pay.|||hell yeah.. shoulda went to walmart|||depends on namebrand, size, type, etc....

I got 2 new ones a month ago for about $100 a piece. He should have compared prices perhaps, find out the competition.|||Hey sweety,

That's not all bad, I just put new Michelin's on me 2006 F150 @ %26amp;167.00 each plus tax came up to about $715.00.

The size tire on these trucks is one reason they cost so much.

Maybe could have found a cheaper tire, but you get a cheaper tire|||that is way too high. find another place immediately. its ridiculous. you are being conned. discount tire shouldn't be that much my tires are 150 for 4.

Working at discount tire?

is working at discount tire really crazy hard work? i know it is hard work but the manager made it seem like it was crazy hard work haha. he said he had guys who were in the army and had a hard time. wtf?!! kinda nervous. start next week|||No, its not crazy hard. The work is fairly straight forward. The environment is a little crazy as you have to get the tasks done quickly and multitasking is the norm.|||it can be hard. some of those trucks that come for tires, the tires can be pretty heavy to handle especially tires for a ton or those tandem trucks. but you will do just fine. besides you won,t be the only 1 working there.

Michelin "Destiny" tires?

Is there anyone out there with this model of Michelin tires?

Am at Discount Tire. Is this true? ?

I had. To put Fix a Flat sealant in it to get it here. Now they are stating that w/new way that they have of plugging or patching hole, that they cannot repair it w/out it becoming flat again? They state that the liquid of fix a flat will not allow patch to stay on and it would eventually go flat again, is this true?|||They either don't know how, or just don't want to do the work.

Telling you they can't fix it isn't really to get you to buy a new tire, it's to limit the company's liability if the trained monkeys get it wrong.|||i used fix flat and then i dismounted the tire/washed it out/let it dry and cleaned with mineral spirits inside with a rag/dried it and put plug in it from auto parts store and ran it again no problem/i did all the cleaning my self and had them mount and dismount tire on rim|||Yes. Although its a major hassle, they should be able to clean out the fix-a-flat "goo" so that the patch will have proper adhesion.

Buying new tires with TPMS?

Need to buy new tires for my Honda Odyssey, which has the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).

I remember an oil change at discount place (Walmart I think) where they wouldn't do tire rotation because of the TPMS.

When buying new tires, am I stuck getting them installed by the dealer, or will a discount tire place like Big O, Mr Tire, Sears, Sam's, Costo, Walmart, someplace like that also be able to install?|||a good tire shop should be able to handle it with out a problem. talk to the foreman first and get a feel for him if he is not confident, then go some where else. honda is not the only place that can do a simple tire change. the only difference is a single sensor at every valve stem.|||Call Firestone Auto Service and see what they can do for you. I have had very bad service at Sears, so I cannot recommend them. The service manager at Big O should know what to do, like any large tire service chain. But, you will get the most dependable information from Honda Service. To cover all bases, look in your owner's manual. There should be a statement about tire rotation and what Honda recommends, or requires, or warns against in your owner's manual.|||TPMS complicates life for the tire tech, but you can still rotate them. I know I have TPMS and I have gotten my tires rotated. You don't need to go to the dealer for tires; just make sure your tire dealer understands what TPMS is. Most dealers have seen plenty of TPMS, so that shouldn't be an issue.

Wal-Mart actually requires its tire techs to be TPMS certified, so I don't know what tire tech was blowing smoke.

Also just for knowledge, I read the tire reviews at Tire Rack http://www.tirerack.com/tires/reviews/Me鈥?/a> Tire Racks sell tires, obviously, but I have never purchased from them. I just ask that you please buy the best tires you can afford.|||Any tire shop will be able to do your tires, but I recommend using one that is reputable; it is easy to damage the sensors, and you need to use a shop that knows what they are doing. When rotating tires with TPMS you need to reset the system so it can tell you where the problem lies when one is low on air, and many places don't want to fool with it.|||A good and profesional tire shop will be able to install new tires on your Honda without problems. If your TPMS is working properly, that is the way it should be after the tire replacement.

Why does my car vibrate when I apply the brakes?

I have a '06 Chevy Cobalt LS and I recently put after-market wheels on the car. The stock tires fit the wheels and I picked the wheels because they are made to fit a '06 Chevy Cobalt (with 4-lug, 15" x 6.5" wheels). Now when I apply the brakes at speeds above 30 MPH, the front of the car shakes as though the ABS system is kicking in. It quits after the car has slowed to speeds under 30 MPH.

The wheels do not appear to be rubbing on the calipers. The wheels were electronically spin balanced at Discount Tire Co. where I purchased them.|||Your wheels are improperly torqued. They must be torqued to the proper amount in the proper sequence. This is true for all wheels and vehicles but is much more critical with disc brakes. When torqued improperly, the rotors will flex and warp. If they warp more than a few thousandths of an inch you can get an immediate pulsation in your brakes. If you properly retorque them before measurable wear occours you can get rid of the pulsing that way. But, if you have driven enough the rotor will wear unvenly making tiny variations in thickness. Disc brakes cannot have more than .0005" thickness variation. If this has happened and you have this all you can do is replace or machine the rotors. I would suggest replacement on such a new vehicle because rotors are not made like they used to be and they wear more because of the harder metal pads.|||Probably it's loose and that in fact is causing it to vibrate. Generally speaking things that are tight will not rattle.|||Brake rotors (look like an "old" 33 rpm record) are discs. When they heat up they sometimes warp (like that old record did)..when you step on the brake to stop the car the rotyation of that warp makes your foot and pedal feel like it goes up and down...replace or "resurface" the rotors and you should be ok. You might have to replace the brake pads as well.

You may also feel it in the steering wheel, too.|||you might have a bent wheel or you got a disc out of round.|||MAYBE YOU LOST A WHEEL WEIGHT. GET THEM CHECKED. I WOULD ALSO CHECK YOUR BREAKS AND ROTORS.|||SOUNDS LIKE THE FRONEND IS OUT OF LINE|||The car did not have this problem until you put after market wheels and Stock tires on, so therefore I believe your problem lies with the wheels and tires, not the brakes, although if brakes did become part of the problem then it was due to having a incompatible wheel and tires that affected the brakes.|||Most likely when the new tires and wheels were put on they used an air wrench unfortunately. This will unevenly torque the lug nuts and lead to very rapir warpage of the rotors. Once they are warped the brake pads ride up and down on the hills and valleys as the rotors turn with the wheels. At low speed it is not terribly noticable when you are braking as the transition between the high and low points on the rotor is slower. Braking from high speeds, however, the transition is much faster as the rotor is turning faster, and it feels like a vibration, sometimes quite a violent one.

I am afraid that at the very least you will need to have the rotors turned (machined back to flat), or if they are too badly warped you will have to replace them. In either case, when they remount the tires insist on having the mechanic use a torque wrench to tighten the lugs to spec and to do the job by hand, not with air wrenches to avoid this problem in the future.

This happens quite often I am sorry to say at shops that try to save time by using air wrenches on wheel mounting.|||When you apply the brakes and have a brake shake, rotors are warped, usually caused by excessive heat and hitting water when they are hot.|||I would have to say that they overtightened the lug nuts and warped the rotors.

How can i tell if my tires are rubbing?

I have a 2003 kia optima. i put 18 inch rims on it and tire size 225/40/18. Discount said dont do it but 2 other tire shops said it was a ok size and did a test fit. (I was going to buy a set from them regardless) but just what discount said worries me. I have been driving and dont hear anything. Any signs or sounds I should look for?|||If your tires were rubbing you would see it,hear it and maybe even smell it. Hear it because it would make a noise by rubbing against something, You would see it because it would leave marks on the tire and whatever it was rubbing against, also if it was rubbing enough it might even cause a burning rubber smell.|||If one of them gets pregnant then your tires are definitely rubbing.

Tires for cheap?

anyone know where i can buy some cheap tires online or in-store? i already tried discount tires and tire rack but the ones they have are a bit too high.|||Check Craigslist.. There ussualy like 25 bucks a tire.|||walmart|||If you're a Costco member, try their tire center - they have some good deals around. I need new tires but I'm clueless! Help?

My rear right tire keeps going flat and has gotten pretty damaged, so I want to replace it. My car is a Saturn (I think the year is '97).

About how much will a pair of new tires plus installation cost?

Do I buy a pair of tires and then take them someplace else to be installed? I'd rather make one stop.

Where is the most cost-efficient place to get it done? Saturn dealer? Sam's Club/Wal-Mart? Discount tire dealer?

What do I need to say to make sure they ONLY replace the two rear tires and don't rip me off? Or what should I look for when signing documents?

The bad tire has cracks all along the edges (and one thick one that scares me), but the tracking on all my tires is still good. Do you suppose they could just repair it and it would be cheaper?

Anything else I should know?|||First off, I would recommend that you look on the side of your existing tires to see what the size is for your car. You mentioned a 1997 Saturn, which is listed on the internet for the 4-door sedan as size "P175/70R14".

To be sure, somewhere on the tire (also written on a small sticker inside the driver side door), you should see something like P175/70R14 near the tire's brand name. It may be worn off if the tires are as bad as you mentioned.

The "P" means it is a passenger tire.

The "175" is the width of the tire.

The "70" is the height from the ground to the edge of the metal wheel.

The "14" is the diameter of the inner hole where the metal wheel goes.

Go to Sam's, CostCo, Walmart Automotive Center, or any other place that sells tires. Compare prices for your size of tires. There are many different brands and the prices will vary based on the size, brand name, and their performance rating.

Expect to pay anywhere from $70 up to $120 for a typical all-season tire for a Saturn. That will NOT include the cost of installing it, but some places offer installation free if you buy the tire from them.

They may also suggest balancing and an alignment. The balancing ($5-10 per tire) will make sure the tires are wearing down evenly. The alignment ($50) will help if your car has a tendency to pull to the left or right when you drive. If the tires are not balanced or aligned, it will reduce the life of the tires and lead to poor gas mileage.

Considering your message about the condition of your tires, my guess is that you will want to have the front tires checked as well to see what condition their tread is in.

I know that spending $400 or more on tires is not something anyone looks forward to, but you have to think about this...the tires are what is keeping your car on the road. If you don't have tires you can rely on to get you from point A to point B without deflating and leaving you stranded, or worse a blowout that causes you to lose control of the car and have an accident, then I hope that you are not driving around with kids in the car (or my kids in the car that you may end up hitting)!

Check out the discount tire websites on the internet to get an idea of what is out there and the costs, then you can find out costs in your area and see what they may offer you.

As for brands, I am a big fan of Yokohama and Michelin. I used BF Goodrich in the past and did not like the ride, Toyo wore out too quickly, and Goodyear is a great tire but can be pricy depending on what model you want. (For the record, Yokohama was also a bit pricy, but I was able to get Yokohama performance tires for my Saturn SC really cheap)|||I usually end up going to a discount tire store like Tread Quarters...they are pretty average price wise, and the price includes mounting and balancing.

Always look for included service, a lot of places charge extra for balancing...

No, you don't repair cracks or splits on a tire, especially on the sidewalls.|||Goodyear is best

you have say no to all the extra things, get balancing, pay the few bucks for valves, and balancing , and tire disposal, and beer for the tire changers, etc.

buy two. $200 or so

if there is no tread on the other two , get 4, ..$400

see if you can get one of them to use as a spare, its always nice to have a real tire as a spare, or two instead of that little runt tire

Firestone will try to take your whole car apart, thencharge you $2,000 to put it back together

The discount ones are always a crapshoot

I bought a brand new spare tire for $65 flat, last tire purchase

its in the trunk for when I get my next flat|||Ha ha noooo you dont buy them in one place, load them up and lug them to another place to install. Its all at once.

That one tire does sound bad. However, other than that, you should go by tread. If you can stick a penny in the tread Lincoln's head first, and it covers his head, your tread is still good. When you take it to a place like Sears, which I've never had trouble with, they will measure the tread, and give you a discount on new tires depending on how much life you have left.

If your tread is still good on all 4, just replace one. However, it isn't a bad idea to replace all 4 at once, because then they wear evenly if it is at an unsafe tread level.

Big O tires WILL rip you off, they will really try to get you. With Sears, it's all business, they dont' have any special incentives to make you buy more expensive tires.

Tires would cost something in the range of $300-$500, and improvements will include such things as deeper and longer wearing grooves, and sound improvement inside your car. Cheaper tires will have a noisy ride, and they look dirty really quickly. If you live in an area where it the weather is not too extreme, don't spend extra on tires that serve harsh weather conditions.

Above all, remember tires are one of the most important safety decisions you will make, right behind brakes. It's not really the place to save a few bucks, but you dont' have to go all out either.

For brands, try consumer reports. Some libraries keep that magazine on file.|||If you want the best tire that you can count on, buy Michelin. The best place to buy them is at Sam's Club.|||If you get a no frills set of tires, it'd be around 50 per tire, or 200 or so for the entire set for that car.

If money's an issue, they can see if it can be repaired, and if possible they will patch it up, if not, then that tire will need to be replaced.

If the rest of the tires are still in good shape, then just tell them you only want that one tire replaced. The process isn't as complicated as buying a car, you can more readily see the finished product and see if they screwed you over.

The only concern i'd have with replacing only a single tire, is that if it's not the same brand/size/model as the others, it may feel a bit lopsided.

I personally, if i had the money, i'd just replace the entire set for peace of mind, and less stress keeping track of specific tires and their life expectancies. And keep the old tires and take them home with me in the case that if one ever needs to be replaced in an emergency, i already have spares.

If they patch it up, from my experience, it'd be around $30. But if you know a little spanish, and know a small hispanic run tire shop in the area, they'll patch it up for a few bucks, and if you don't mind a used tire that's been retreaded, give you one (with installation) for $25.|||Your description of your tires is more than sufficient to warrant replacement, not repair. I would expect you to pay about a hundred to a hundred and fifty bucks for a pair of decent tires installed. You can get them cheaper, but beware. Cheap tires wear faster, or they are noisy, but in reality tires need to meet federal standards, so just because they're cheap doesn't mean they're unsafe. I would not go to the dealer. They are not in the tire business. They are in the service business, and they will take more of your money. Go to Pep boys, Sears, Wal Mart, someplace like that. I found the best deal on my last set of tires at Sears. They are called Goodyear Revelation. Tell them exactly what you want. Two new tires, mounted and balanced. They are not allowed to do more than you ask, however they will recommend extra work. That's called "up-selling". They work on commission. You are in complete control. Do not allow any work you don't want, and if they insist on fixing something that they say is wrong, get another estimate. Sears got themself into trouble for recommending unneeded work, so they are very careful now. Get two tires, have them put the new ones on the front. If you have a crap tire on the front, it has more of a chance of blowing, and you are much safer if you blow a back tire, and get a road hazard warranty so when you blow a tire they will fix it free. That way you will have no excuse for driving on junk tires like you are now. And for God's sake, don't let anyone put nitrogen in your tires. It's the greatest rip-off known to mankind. Air is more than adequate.|||Normally one stop, like Walmart, is best. You will want mounting, balancing, tire valves and disposal. If you have aluminum rims, you may also need to have them cleaned. Don't buy into any extended warranty plans, or extras. Simply say no thanks.|||i get my tires at wal-mart.i get douglas tires.they are good tires and i get alot of miles out of them, but i just buy them and take them to a tire shop to get them on.if the other tires are good, then you can just get 1 tire.

Michelin Flat first tread from the sidewall nail puncture. Should I replace the tire?

New set of tires with a nail puncture in the first tread from the sidewall.Goodyear tire would not repair the tire(too close to the sidewall), but Discount Tire did repair the tire (purchased the tires from Discount). My 22 year old daughter travels 150+ miles from college to home on a reg. bases. Should I replace the tire?|||Change it for your safety and others. Side wall is thinner then top of tire.|||Generally, a puncture in the sidewall = new tyre.

Puncture in the tread = repair.

You could try an inner tube if in doubt from a specialist tyre outlet.|||I've driven a truck tire where I had a puncture through the side wall. I repaired it myself by punching the tire repair material through the hole and releasing it. I see it when I travel with it. I've hauled 1 1/2 ton loads on the truck. It hasn't let me down. I'm amazed because I didn't think I could repair a sidewall with a do it your self rig,

Bad tires...?

I bought a 2005 honda civic in august of this year. Three times since then i've had to have my air pressure checked in my front driver side tire. yesterday i got it checked because the tire would "wobble" as i drove. what could this mean? oh, and does discount tire co. patch a tire up for free? one of my other tires picked up a screw on the way to work this morning (not in the sidewall). thanks for the help!! :D|||I would suggest that you get at least 2 new tires on the front and yes you can patch a tire as long as the screw wasn't in the sidewall and no it won't be free.|||the tire needs to be properly balanced and/or there is a slow air leak|||sometimes the wheel can be to blame if the tire keeps losing air.|||just get new tires. Sometimes they can't even FIND the small leaks, and therefore can't patch 'em|||Get new tires. Nothing is free in life.|||it could be that your alignment is off!|||Go to Pepboys

If you have to keep putting air in the tire that is because it is leaking and needs to be inspected for possible repair. Which means you now have 2 tires that need to be fixed.|||Do not go to Town Fair Tires for tire repairs. Bad Service.|||You should be checking the tire pressure every couple of weeks, and more frequently if the pressure is dropping fast. How to get Star Patterned Lug Nut locks off?

I have Lug Nut locks on my car. it didn't come with the key and i have no way of finding one. I've gotten three lug nuts off with an Allen Wrench size10 but the fourth one is starting to get stripped %26amp;is really stuck on there. so i dont want to damage it any more then i already have. Any idea's on how to get this one off? Discount tires? Goodyear? call my road side assistance maybe?|||Your going to have to get a "nut cracker" from a parts store. Splitting the nut is the only way to get it off.|||Find a 1/2 drive socket, and breaker bar with long handle, find socket size that would almost fit over the lock lug nut, take a good heavy hammer and hit the top of the breaker bar forcing the socket to be pounded on to the lock nut. Maybe add a piece of pipe called a cheater pipe for extra leverage, slide over the handle of the breaker bar. (plumbing pipe) for cheater, leverage......|||Tire stores have a special tool that they POUND onto your lug nut and then use it to turn it off. They use it for specialy keyed lug nuts (sounds like that is what you actualy have) that are installed as anti theft. If they are "star" then they could be a big Torx.... Go to your local good auto parts store and ask them to help you get the right tool .

Or if they are specialy keyed ones then get them removed at a tire shop and replace them with ones you DO have the proper key/tools for.|||Take it to a welder. They can weld a bolt on it. Why does my car wobble when I go above 60 mph?

I just got a new set of all-season tires installed in my car at Discount Tire. Immediately, I noticed when I go above 60 mph my car starts wobbling. I pulled over to the emergency lane because I thought I had a flat tire, but the tires look fine. What could be causing this? It happens constantly. Thanks.|||I would go back to Discount Tire and make sure they were balanced properly. If they are it could be an alignment issue. I had a car years ago that did that and when I got it aligned it stopped.|||Wheel nuts left loose, or the wheel may have thrown the weights off it.

For 4 wheel drive vehicles is it true if you must replace 1 tire then you have to replace them all?

Walmart by where I live said they could replace 1 of my tires for me. However when I called Discount tire to get a price quote they said in 4 wheel drive vehicles you have to replace all 4 tires not just 1. I really dont want to replace all 4 tires since the other 3 are in great condition. Is this true about 4 wheel drives or is discount tire just trying to make more money?|||im not sure if its true or not. im going to say no, since i replaced 2 tires on my explorer at different times.

also, DONT use discount tires. i used them once and had a terrible experience. i told that to my sister when she was buying tired, also got majorly screwed. its called discount tires for a reason, and you definitely get what you pay for..... which is almost nothing!

now i only use goodyear. more expensive, but at least they get it done right.|||To be absolutely safe you should have the new tire shaved so the tread depth matches your existing tires.

Other than that it depends which car you have including what type of rear end and transfer case. Some setups are more tolerant of mismatched tires than others. If your other three tires are in great condition you can replace only one. A new tire has a tread depth of about 10/32 - 11/32. If your old tires have more than 8/32 you should be fine.|||Four wheel drive vehicles need the same size of tires in all four corners. The reason being that the gears in the differential will wear unevenly if you have two different size tires on the same axle. Just like a two wheel drive vehicle that has rear wheel drive requires that both rear tires are the same size for the same reason.|||you don't have to, but replacing all 4 will give you even wear on your tires and also spread the traction evenly on all four tires.

However, I'd just change the pair, and use the extra as a spare tire. This way they get pretty even wear, and you don't have to buy all new tires. You also have a spare.

Does NTB fixes tires for free?

I know Discount Tire fixes them for free. If not, how much do they charge for tire repair?|||Why not ask them|||yes they do but I think that you have to purchase there tires ,but yes they really do.

Does anyone know of any guidelines on flat tire repairs?

I've had a couple of flat tires and both times, Discount Tires suggested to replace the tire because they cannot repair it. They said that the puncture was near the sidewall. It seems to me that they never repair a tire (although they offer the service for free), in addition, they pull a scare tactic such as "The tire will bubble and explode..." It looks to me that if you have a flat tire, you need to replace it not repair it.|||tire damage in or near the side wall can not be repaired with a plug, the side wall flex's thus cutting or working the plug out, the only way i know to fix it, is if the hole is small enof, you can buy a tube for a radial tire and have it in stalled|||go to napa and ask for a flat tire repair kit there run about 20 and it is E-Z to use the directions are in it you can do it your self|||any damage to the side wall cannot be repaired. the repair process would split the sidewall around the leak which would make things worse. an damage to the tread can be repaired as the treads support the area around the leak so a plug can be inserted without causing more damage.|||The only company that I know of that will replace or fix a flat tire is Les Schwab. I only buy my tires from them. They will come and fix a flat, if you are stuck on the side of the road. They will rotate your tires for free and if there is a problem with a tire, they will replace it free of charge. I will never buy tires from anywhere else. I have provided you will a link to their site, so you can find one near you:

http://www.lesschwab.com/|||Radial tires must *never* be repaired on the sidewall.

The sidewalls on radials flex too much, and both patches and plugs will delaminate and fail.

For simple punctures, I have had good luck with "spare tire in a can" You can also put a radial tube inside of a radial tire to remedy simple punctures.

Otherwise, a mushroom headed plug is the best repair in the tread, followed by a patch, and then a plug in last place.|||There right. Any tire repair on or very near the sidewall will not work for long. This part of the tire flexes the most and they do not want any accidents blamed on them.|||patching it from the inside can work but you'll have to do it your self.

Most companys won't do it cause we live in a sue everybody world and they are affraid if they patch it and it blows out and because you don't know how to handle your car with a blow out you crash and sue them cause the tire blew|||Radial tire punctures in or near the sidewall cannot be repaired because the sidewall of a radial tire flexes to dissipate heat. I'm sure you have noticed that a radial tire sometimes looks as if it is low on air because of how the sidewall pooches out at the bottom. This is normal and as a radial tire rotates, it dissipates most of its heat through the sidewall instead of through the tread like an old bias ply tire. This is one reason a radial generally lasts longer. If you were to patch a radial tire near the sidewall, the patch would fail after a short time due to the constant flexing of the sidewall. Imagine taking a coat hanger and slowly bending it back and forth. Before long it will break from the constant flexing. That is similar to what would happen with a radial tire sidewall patch. If your tire is repairable, you should always insist on an internal patch and NEVER a plug. A plug allows air to seep in between the plies of a tire and can cause a separation eventually.|||Tire stuff makes for good entertainment. It is amazing how people run with the smallest piece of info. Don't DIY. Discount Tire has the best trained people in the industry, if you suspect the guy you talked to, talk the manager. The bottom line is that your life and others depend largely on a 3500 lb vehicle moving on a small section of rubber moving at 50-80 mph.|||Sidewall repairs can be made by using a reinforced repair, but these repair units are so expensive that it's only economical for large truck tires.

Nail hole punctures must not be too large, and must not be close to the edges of the tread. The belt edges are very critical to the durability of the tire, and damage to this area is fatal. The tire could be made to hold air again, but it would likely soon fail due to a separation.|||never put a plug or patch past the last grove in the tire tread. that part of the tire flexes when you go around corners and a plug or patch will just blow out.|||as every one has said you cannot repair a sidewall puncture.

The part of me that says "play it safe" agrees with the tire shop, why risk an accident because a patched tire blew out at 65mph.|||Yea go to the local tire shop and buy a new one.|||if its out of the tred area DO NOT REPAIR this tire|||Even if the puncture is in the tread area you still run a risk in repairing it.Especialy if the tyre has been run flat.Side wall damage occurs quicky when the trye is run flat and ofter can cause side wall failure if you keep using it after the puncture has been repaired.|||ITS CALLED A BOOT TOCOVER THE HOLE|||i disagree with your last sentence. if you still have a nice tread and theres a nail in it, a patch plug is a great way to go.

a lot of late model cars have much lower profile tires than cars did 20 years ago. thus more tire "injuries" are near the sidewall.

yes injuries near the sidewall dictate replacement. we are only talking about your life and the people in your car.

some tires have a high speed rating such that you CANNOT patch, plug, or otherwise repair at all. replacement is mandatory on all injuries with these types of tires.

How much does it cost to repair a bent Rear Toe on a Saturn 1998?

My car has a bent rear toe due to being in an accident. It does have a pull. I've gotten it aligned however the people who did the alignment (Mavis Discount Tires) said that a wheel alignment does not completely fix the problem. How much would it cost to fix the rear toe?|||It will need a new trailing arm, some people call it a stub axle. The cost of everything might run $500 or so.|||Toe is a measurement, not a part.

you may need a rear tie rod or control arm or something of that nature.

An alignment shop would be the place to get it fixed. The one you went to either doesn't have a clue, or didn't do a very good job of explaining the problem to the customer.

They should not have been able to perform an alignment without repairing the problem.

First step to a proper alignment is a complete suspension inspection. before the alignment can be performed any damaged or loose parts must be fixed or replaced.

good luck.

Do you have to get all work done by a the dealership to keep the warranty in effect?

I understand stuff like engine and such, but what about scheduled maintenance, oil changes, and tire rotations? The dealership wants to charge me $20 to rotate my tires and NTB or Discount Tire will do it for free!|||Warranty in effect as long as you get a receipt (and keep it to show proof) of services being done at the proper interval.

Make sure your work order shows the mileage that the vehicle was serviced at.|||No work does not have to be done at the dealership.

You must keep all of the receipts for the work and keep accurate reconds when it was done.|||If you have all receipts with regular oil changes, the original warranty should be still in effect. If the dealer finds the problem was caused by improper repair or not original parts, they can refuse warranty for certain components.|||Nope it's law that unless the manufacturer does it for free, all required maintainance can be performed anywhere you wish as long as you have recipts that show date/milage and there's no evidence of fraud on the repeair orders (such as repair orders with numbers pretty close to each other for work done months apart) It's called the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act

However, if the work done by others does cause a problem that can be linked to the other shops work, then technically the other shop is liable for the damage, not the manufacturer|||Absolutely not. You can do it any where or even your self if you keep reciepts and document all work done.

Old boat trailer needs new tires. A few questions for a trailer dummie.?

1. Size are 4.80-12. Can I install these myself? If so, do you just use a car hoist?

2. Any name brand places install them for you like a Discount Tire?

3. Should I get just the tires or the tire with the wheel attached?

4. Can you point me to some decent ones at a good price or where to buy them?

It's a 14 foot boat. Any specifics I should know regarding tire weight, etc?|||Just take the trailer to a tyre store, discuss what you need with the tech. and purchase tyres that are rated for the load and the highway speeds you may get up to. The store should fit and balance these for you as part of the cost. Use the best old tyre for the spare.|||Assuming single axle, no brakes.

Got mine at discount tire. If you don't have a spare, get one, otherwise just get the tires. Do let them balance 'em.

Get a bias ply trailer tire, they aren't as cheap as you'd hoped but don't be tempted with a cheaper car tire. Car tires have to withstand horizontal forces from starting and stopping and cornering, but less vertical bouncing because cars have torsion axles instead of leaf springs; your boat trailer tires do a lot of bouncing but don't have to accelerate the vehicle. Unless you're on the tournament trail, the tires will probably fail from UV exposure before the tread wears down (if you keep 'em inflated to 50 lbs).

I just use the car jack and jackstands; cinder blocks work just as well. Put the jack under the axle not the trailer frame else it might not lift it high enough to get the tire off the ground.

If you have another vehicle handy, leave the trailer hitched to the truck, then you don't have to worry about it shifting around %26amp; falling.

This might be a good time to inspect your wheel bearings.

thanks...|||Get the alignment done. You might not have noticed with the old tires...especially if they wore down unevenly as a result.|||Well if its an balance problem you'd also feel it in your ***, literally the seat would be shaking in certain ways. To see if the balanced the tires you could simply check and see if there are weights on the tires if there aren't the tires aren't properly balanced, you'd likely be better off taking them to a larger tire center to have them balanced and I would also have the tires checked if I were you, because some of these tire stores that aren't backed by a bigger company can be really shady in their practices.

Does anyone have any idea what Discount Tire pays starting off?

Can i just reseal my tires?

my tires are leaking air and i believe its a seal problem, and i was just wondering if i can just go to discount tires or a tire store and reseal it?

by the way the tire is in perfect condition, it has no holes, no interior damages or anything. i have done the bubble test and the results come near the rim (tire beads). PLEASE HELP!|||I solved this once on my mom's car. Just put 40psi into the tire and drive several miles. Then let a few psi out. It worked perfectly.|||Yes. You can reseal your tires. "Results come near the rim/bead". You did the right thing to find the leak. Now go to a good tire shop and get the rims of your wheels cleaned. They are dirty and not holding the seal between the rims and the beads. They will also slop on some soapy water before inflating. If the rims have chunks of the tire bead stuck on, like old gum under a school desk, you will need to replace that tire regardless of how good you think the tire looks. But that usually only happens with old tires. Your tire(s) are probably leaking down to 20 psi, or a little less, and then holding. That's because the bead contracts with deflating and eventually reaches a point where it does seal.|||So outta nowhere your tire beads start leaking? Odd. Worse case senario the bead is separating from the tire underneath the rim where you cannot see it as that would be unrepairable. But either way in order to find out the tires must be removed from the rim and inpsected for debris or cracks.|||Years back a mechanic at Sears removed my tire removed the rim, used a wire brush, then

applied a light coating of quick dry paint where there was some rust, and they never leaked

again...

The canned Fix-A-Flat will most likely fail you for this problem. I wouldn't waste the money on it.|||Yes, go to Discount Tire and they will be able to help you.

They can fix most tire leaks without you having to buy new tires.

Which tires should I be looking at?

Hey guys, thanks for taking the time to give me a little info. I'm going to be putting 4 new tires on my '03 Saturn Ion sedan this summer. I drive a little rougher than the average person, but not what one might call "aggressive".

I'm looking for a tire that offers good life (60,000+ mile warranty) as well as good rain/snow traction, as the weather here in Minnesota can be a beast. A quiet, comfortable ride is also important.

I'm probably going to buy these tires from the Discount Tire Co. (discounttire.com). I'm somewhat torn between getting the Yokohama YK520's or the Goodyear Assurance Comfortreads.

Is one of those noticably better than the other, or is there another tire they offer I should be looking at altogether? I don't want to go TOO high buck (under $90 per tire).

Thank you!|||You don't say if you have a Ion 1, 2 or 3 and since each uses a completely different tire size specific recommendations are difficult.

My experiences with the Goodyear Assurance Comfotread lead me to not recommend this tire. It is the only tire in recent memory where I have noticed repeated quality control problems.

For example, late last year we special-ordered a set of 4 for a customer for their Chrysler minivan. We found two of them to be defective before we ever put them on the vehicle and a third wouldn't balance out. I have never had anything remotely like that happen before or since. We ended up having to order 7 tires for this van just to get one good set of four. One of my co-workers who we recently hired away from a store that specializes in Goodyear tires has many similar stories. The Assurance Tripletread on the other hand has had no such problems that I am aware of, is a better rain and snow traction tire and if your a bit on the aggressive side in your driving habits is a better choice anyway. The first really good tire Goodyear has made in probably 15 years. Yeah they are more expensive and over your budget, but worth every penny.

The Yokohama YK520 is new and only sold through Discount Tire so I have no experience with it. It seems to be a non-directional version of the widely available AVID H4s (which Discount also carries) with bits of design from other models in the Yoko lineup thrown in. As a general rule I shy away from recommending tires that are unique to one retailer. This complicates replacement should you have a blowout. I've also been underwhelmed by the Yokohama's performance all-season lineup in the snow. I don't know that the YK520 would do any better. You'd be better off with the BF Goodrich Traction T/A in my opinion.

Since Discount Tire strangely doesn't do alignments, make sure to take it to a garage that does after you get the tires installed.

ASE Certified Automotive Service Advisor with 5 years experience in the tire industry in Minnesota|||Hello,

I would prefer YOKOHAMA...|||Michelin are good tires too|||I have Goodyear Assurance tires on my Dodge Charger, which I drive very aggressively (it has the Hemi!), and I'm at 26,000 miles. The tires are nearly shot. I live in Wisconsin, and the tires had problems in the snow. I've heard other people put Yokohoma on the Charger, but I'm looking for new tires too. I'd stay away from Goodyear Assurance based on my experience unless they have a long, long warranty (mine didn't).

Also, performance tires won't last nearly as long as all-season passenger tires. You may consider Touring tires, which match performance with traction, but they are slightly higher than standard all-season.|||this is like a dumd blond question im going to discount tire and i dont trust the source so my question would be why ask?

ask them after all they are your choise|||I have furnished you with some listings for tire dealers in St. Paul.|||I own an 06 Ion Quad Coupe and have mine outfitted with Yokohamas for the warmer season. I live in PA, so I get my fair share of snow and rain (most recently too, strangely enough). Because of the changing weather (and of my long drive to work), I also purchased snow tires for my car. I know it's expensive, but it's worth it in the end, especially if you are a serious driver (I put on 30,000 miles in a year). The Yokos do not wear off that easily, and at a price around $80 per, it's a fair price for a quality tire. They are great in the rain!|||Goodyear Assurance tires are very good tires, triple thread and long lasting, but very few people don't like the way the handle because of the three extra layers of rubber. You can also look at some of the Michelin (H) rated tires. They all have a smooth ride and last long. You forget that your driving sometimes with those tires.|||Don't forget about the so-called off brand tires. Most are made by the big manufacturers and are just as good, AND lower priced.

I cannot recommend the Goodyear though, seen to many come thru the shop worn out and not alot of miles on them.

What does a tech at discount tire do?

I am having a hard time looking for tires for my Saturn Relay. The size is 225 60r 17 and i live in minnesota?

I have tired fleet farm,Sams/walmart I am looking for a discount that i can look on line at?|||P225/60R17 98S is not a tire size you are going to find in stock at most places, and particularly not at a big-box like Sams/Wal-Mart where tires are just another commodity like toilet paper. It is just not very common - almost unique to this particular vehicle. Low demand = low inventory.

I don't even stock this size yet at my store. My history says I've sold one set of tires in this size in the last year. That doesn't mean they can't be had, they just need to be ordered - usually same-day turnaround. The Kuhmo Solus KR21 is a great value tire at only $84.99 plus installation and are readily available out of my warehouse. The Michelin Hydroedge would represent the high-end at $144.99 - with a few choices in between.|||Go to http://www.tirerack.com/ they have great prices on every size tire you can imagine thats where I buy my tires lol and they usually ship fairly soon as well|||any tire dealer can easily acquire them even though they may not keep them in stock.

Should I change my tires 10 points?

I got my tires checked from discount tire co. the other day, they told me I should replace my tires. He said my rear driver tire has a wear Indicator on it, but it still has a lot of tread left. And my other tire has a piece of medal in it and loses air but has tread left. Do you also think that tire companies would lie to you, to get money. thanks in advance|||The tread indicator is located in the groove between the treads. Looks like a connection between the treads.

Always do the penny check as well.

Yes. I have seen tire companies pull your leg to get a sale.

Good companies will walk you out to the car and SHOW you the damage.

Tires can be patched as a repair. ONLY if it is in a safe area to do so.

Sidewalls are NOT repairable. Tire plugs are LAST resort only.

If possible, jack each tire one at a time, run your hand around the backside to feel for tire separation (steel wires exposed). Then across treads to feel for belt slippage ( uneven feel along treads ..hilly).

If you have to buy tires, and are on a fixed income, try to get two new for front and put best two on rear. Also, for cost purposes, check your drivers door for correct tire size and speed rating. Spend a little on a front end alignment, keep the correct pressure in the tires and this will actually save you money down the road.|||fix the one and keep driving,, they are scamming you..|||Fix the tire with the hunk of metal which could blow-out anytime.|||any business could potentially lie to you. you just have to have the connections to the ones that wont. or just possess the smarts to be able to do repairs and such on your car yourself. if the guy said that your rear drivers side tire had a wear indicator showing, but that the tire still had plenty of tread left, he may have been telling the truth if in fact your wheel alignment was off. bad wheel alignment can make tires wear in some places but not others. if theres a small leak in your tire, take it to a tire repair facility and they will patch it.|||the tire manufacturer puts wear bars in between the treads to help determine when it's time to change the tire. they used to use a penny and if you could see all of Lincoln's head it was time. If any part of your tire is at or below the wear bar it should be replaced for your safety. Those indicators are there for a reason and after you change the tires you will feel why.|||Yes and no some tire companies do lie but as you have stated the wear bars / indicators are showing and you have a piece of metal in the other one so its best to replace all of them plus it they are around 6 years old or close to that then they need replacement anyway.....drive safe.

Are there any current Discount Tire in-store coupons in Colorado?

Check the Sunday Paper. Also the coupon fliers that come in the mail.

I need to purchase a set of tires for my car and need advice as to the best place?

I have a 3series BMW. My tires are 225/50/16.

What is the best discount coupon, offer, place to buy like Costco, etc., for me to get a good set of tires?|||Support your local economy.

www.tirerack.com typically has the best prices on the market. Find the tire you want and print out the price page. Go to a local store like America's Tire (aka Discount Tires) or Big O and they will match the TireRack price+$25 because TireRack charges $95 shipping.

The other benefit: because you purchased from a nation-wide retailer, keep a copy of your receipt in your car at all times and you can get free rotation at any branch vs. do it yourself or pay $20-25 each time.

If you get a weird branch for any reason that won't price match+$25, ask for their floor manager, or let them know you're going to the other branch across town.|||I find the best overall place where you consider price and service is Costco. Yes, you may be able to purchase them cheaper somewhere else, but can you go back year after year and have them re-balance them for "no extra charge". Will they even be in business one year later. Also, Costco offers their own satisfaction guarantee that smaller places do not.

Right now in Canada Costco has a coupon sale on Michelin tires and I would not doubt if the US has the same sale.|||That depends how much you want to spend. If you're looking for high end tires like Michelins, costco is the way to go and if I remember correctly, those can run you from several hundred dollars to around $1000.00.

If you're not looking to spend that much, tirerack.com has tires from every price range, depending on the type of tire and brand.

I looked at Big-O tires for our SUV and they are ridiculously expensive. For the same price of their name brand (Big-O) tires, I could have put on Michelins for about the same price.

I bought a set (4) of General tires from tirerack.com for a little more than $400.00; other places here wanted around $700.00 for the exact same set of tires.|||It depends on how long you want them to last,55k 65k 75k...

Costco has good deals on tires

Big O has been my choice because if you buy the Big O promise warranty for $7 extra. It will come with a 3 year 24/hr roadside warranty and also if you get a flat and it cant be repaired, they give you a new tire.

Les Schwabb is good also, but they are expensive for regular tires, I get more and better service at Big O.|||look in tghe weekend paper they usually have deals on tires in there..also if you have to ask for best price you cant afford them in the first place...lol|||i love my michelen all season tires!!! had them for 2 yrs and they still have more than enough tread! costco is pretty cool if you get them from there|||Walmart is not bad, grab a named brand like Goodyear %26amp; they will give you a decent deal.

What time open discount tire on sunday?

Do you mean Mavis Discount tire? Each location may have slightly different hours, but I checked a few near me and none are open on Sunday.

Does anyone know what this means? Please read regarding my Discount Tire Warranty.?

Hi I purchased extra "New Tires - Mileage Warranty" at Discount Tire on my tires a year ago and they have already worn down i.e. the metal is showing. I was reading the repair, refund, or replacement certificate and it states the following: "In addition to the warranties above, every mileage warranted passenger, SUV or Light truck tire is warranted to the original purchaser for the specified number of mils of tread wear and against normal road hazards for the same mileage (if applicable). If our examination shows that the tire covered by this warranty has worn down to its tread indicators before giving the specified number of miles of non-commercial service on the passenger, SUB or Light truck on which it was installed, it will be replaced on a pro-rata mileage basis."

What da heck does this mean, that they will replace my tire if it is worn through the thread and its only been a year and I have only driven 30,000 when the warranty states 80,000 miles. I am so confused! Please help me. Ive already called and they keep asking me just to come in, but I just want to be prepared. I don't want to be lied to. Thank you|||It means they are covered for 80,000 miles but it will be pro-rated, in other words they will adjust the price for another set of tires. It does not mean that you get entirely new tires because yours did not go the full amount of miles. You will pay about 1/2 price for a new set, or a little less.

Also, were they front tires, rear tires, or all 4 tires? If it was front tires, they can inspect the front end to make sure that it has not sustained any damage or might be out of alignment. If the front end is damaged or out of alignment and caused the premature wearing of the tires, then they will not be covered under the warranty at all and you will have to pay 100% of the cost for more tires.|||It means they will replace the tire on a pro-rated basis (no free tire) IF it is worn evenly across the tread and if you have maintained them properly by rotating them regularly. If the tires are worn unevenly (ex: only the shoulder is down to cords, the rest of the tire having tread) that is due to a mechanical problem with the vehicle and/or improper maintenance and you mileage warranty is void.|||I'll give you a tip: Be prepared to show them in person or mail an installation receipt with mileage on the odometer when the tires were installed. That's all there is to it!

If the tire is warrantied for tread-life for 80,000 miles, you should only be charged for *wear incurred" of 30,000 miles toward a new set of tires. You are allowed to pick a completely different brand with a higher wear rating.|||My son works there. Go back and pay the pro-rated deductible and get 4 new tires. Get in the car and go now and GET ER DUN! BYE!|||If your tires wore down without there being an alignment or toe-in problem, then Discount Tire will exchange the tires for new ones on a pro-rated basis. That means they will only charge you a specific percentage for the miles you already got out the tires. I know you don't want to fork over more money for new tires, but they will charge you something for the miles you already got. I have had good service from this tire chain and believe that in most cases they will try to do the right thing. Good luck. Go in and let them tell you what they find and decide to do.|||I think it means, that since you only put on 30000 miles instead of the 80000 miles, they would replace it Pro rated, meaning you would pay according to the miles used.....if you had 70000 on it instead of 30000 you would pay more but if you had 20000 instead of the 30000 you would pay less.

The less miles on the tires, the more they offer to pay for your warranty.

Let' say you had a blow out on a tire that had 100 miles on it....they would pay for all of it. But if you had 79000 miles on the tire, they will almost pay for none of it...

You have 80000 of tire usage, and if you only use 30000 miles of it, you will pay less then if you used the whole 80000....so your tires should cost you less. You will have to pay some of it, of course.

But in this case, you would pay less then half price....30000 being less then half of 80000...that is how I see it.

Talk to the dealer...

24s on my Escalade, I need to safely drive to Discount w/out blowing the tires & ruining my wheels. How?

I knew it was about time to get new tires because the treads on the right side are getting worn. I didn't think they were that bad until today I see that the outer walls on both of my right tires are splitting especially above the lettering (where the brand is marked). The gaps are not much wider than the letters in this text, but they are over an inch or 2" long. The tire shop is 3 miles away, I'll be driving on the hot Arizona asphalt. How can I get there safely?|||First and foremost, I have to say NO, you should never drive on tires in that condition.

Realistically, you will probably be ok...I mean, it was ok before you noticed...IF you decide to drive it...drive straight there, no stops, nothing else. Just drive there, and avoid fast turns and hard accelerations or stops.|||drive there or if its that bad call a tow|||Crap shoot. What other options do you have ??? What legal actions can I take against Discount tire for putting dents and scratches on my rims?

Today, my husband and I went to Discount Tire to fix a tire that was leaking air. Turns out there was a nail in the tire which was fixed but unfortunately they did not take very good care of my rim and tire. Prior to bringing the rim and tire in, my husband inspected the rim. There was absolutely no scratches or dents on the rim. When the tire was fixed and brought back out, we discovered 2 dents and 2 scratches which my husband pointed out. Right away, the customer rep denied that they did it even though he was not the technician who worked on the set of wheels. My husband asked them to dismount the tire again so that he can see how they do it. When they dismounted the tire the second time around, my husband discovered a bad rip on the tire where it meets the rim and pointed it out. They denied to have caused the damage too. They did not offer to repair or replace anything. We walked out of there very mad. I know with 100% certainty that our rim had no scratches or dents going in. This is the first time anyone has touch the rims and tires besides the store that we ordered it from. I usually would not care about these kinds of things but each rim w/tire cost almost $1000 and I worked very hard to be able to buy these wheels for my husband. I feel helpless and disrespected. What legal actions can I take and would it be worth all the trouble?|||Most likely none. Remember that paper you signed before the work started. Read the fine print.

Which brand do u suggest me to buy for tires 175/65R14?

I was wondering how good are Pirelli P3000 (P175/65R-14 81T B) they are going for quite a good price according to brand and compared with other available options @ discount tire [$62 each - $370 total price (including labor n tax) for 4 tires]

any better deals or ideas!? I'm open to anything that is not blacklisted here (I'm not looking for Yokohamas, Bridgestone/firestone, Michelin, cheapo tire brands that u hear their name for the 1st time or cheapos like continentals or Toyos)

Corolla 99 CE and i do alot of high speed/sharp turns and/or wet driving (heavy rainstorms are frequent where i live and i had older bridgestones that would not even have anything called traction from complete stop to move under wet situations)

Price range per tire not more than $60 range - total not exceeding 350 range (i know Pirellis are an exception in my plan)

thnx in advanc|||Some Corolla's are fitted with P185/65R15 85S tires. If yours is fitted OE with P175/65R14 81S then stick with that. Your car is geared and the speedometer and odometer calibrated to the P175/65R14 81S size.

Pirelli P3000's are decent enough, though it is no performance tire. I am not sure why you would not want to consider ANY of the directly competitive brands such as Michelin, Bridgestone or Yokohama who make some of the best tires in the world. That only leaves you with the also-rans.

Also, I've heard Toyo's called a number of things, but "cheap" ain't one of them.

Really the only tire that seems to fit all of your requirements - cheap, aggressive driving style, wet performance - is the Sumitomo HTR H4. But then, you didn't want a cheap off-brand tire but aren't willing to consider any of the big name-brands either.

But if your really into aggressive cornering you could opt for a P195/60R14 85H or 195/60R14 86H tire instead. That opens up all kinds of options. The Firestone Firehawk GT for example is a great corner-carver that still offers excellent wet weather performance - but wait, you won't consider Firestone even though this is an outstanding tire.

You could do the Yokohama AVID H4s... wait, that one is no good either. Yokohama was a "blacklist" brand.

The Kuhmo Solus KH16 gets very favorable reviews and slots in way under your budget... oops, cheap brand.

EDIT:

Every brand, and I do mean EVERY BRAND has its winners and its losers. To totally discount an entire brand because of one bad experience with one particular tire (probably years ago) is just plain silly. It keeps you from considering some of the best tires on the market. The Bridgestone Potenza RE92 is one of my least favorite tires every for example but the Potenza RE960 AS Pole Position is probably better than any competing tire out there by a sizable margin. Would you deny yourself the best tire made because you had a bad experience with some OE junk, just because of the name on the sidewall? The Yoko's you had such a bad time with were I bet Aegis LS4's - phenominal traction but they rarely make their treadwear warranty (prone to heal-and-toe wear). Consumer Reports loved them though. The AVID TRZ is on the other hand a phenominally long lasting tire that delivers great traction in all conditions and a ride better than most OE tires at a very reasonable price point. Buy you won't consider it because of a bad experience with some old outdated Yokohama model.

3 years ago I don't think there was a single Goodyear tire I could recommend to my customers. But since then they got serious about making tires again and came out with several models that are absolutely first class that I would not hesitate to recommend. Just because their previous generation sucked has no bearing on their current catalog.

Tires, like people should be looked at on their individual merits, not labels.

I stand by my prior recommendatins BTW.

ASE Certified Automotive Service Advisor and self-proclaimed tire expert (I've driven them all, HARD) working in the tire industry for 5 years|||175 is the with of the tire in millimeters

65 is the sidewall height expressed as a percentage of the width

R means it is a radial tire

14 means the tire mounts on a 14 inch diameter rim.

If you go to a 185 tire, you have to go to a lower profile (maybe a 60) if you want to keep the 14 inch rims, however a 175/65 is 107 mm tall, while a 185/60 is 111 mm tall, you will have a speedometer error.|||You can use Michelin's because the have a "give" to them BUT I don't care what tire you use, sharp turns in wet weather in a very light car will lead to disaster.

The 175 is the width in mm, the 65 is the aspect ratio, the height off the rim compared to the width and 14 is the rim diameter in inches.

If using a different tire, there might be a problem with turning and with your speedometer.|||the difference between 175 and 185 is tread, 185 has more tread then 175, with 185's you should get a better grip of the road.. well i would suggest at least gettin some 195's or 205's instead of 175, becuz like u said u do a lot of fast turns and stuff... u need way more grip on the road with 175's u wont get nothing

i checked i think the most biggest when it comes to tread u can go is 195, 205's would come in 15 inch.. chck link below|||We are Michelin fans--but i heard Pirelli's are good too!
