Recommended tires for a 1995 Pontiac Trans Am?

I am looking for suggestions for tires. I plan on shopping at Discount Tire, but would be open to other store options. More importantly I am looking for suggestions on tires. I want a good gripping tire with good performance, but I also don't want to pay too much (yeah I know). I drive aggressively and like go from stops in a hurry. The last tires I had were BF Goodrich T/A KDW's. I bought the car with these tires on them, and have not been overly impressed. The tires are about 2 years old, and while they do have some tread left they don't seem to have any grip. I spin the tires constantly, sometimes when I don't even mean to. And driving in the rain is practically a death trap. I was told my rims are from a recent year Corvette Z06, the tire size with this rim is 265/40 18. What is a suggestion for a good priced high quality tire, and I would be willing to alter the size a little to save on price like to 275/35 or something like that. Suggestions?|||i had a 95 trans am LT1

i put a full set of Potenzza tires. they felt really nice.|||P235/55R16 or 245/50R16 size tires. I can get you a price of about $105.00 shipped for a V rated Maxxis tire. www.badboytire.com

|||Get the same size, but go with a softer tire...may wear out sooner. but good grip. I use firestones. but yokohamas are good too.|||dude wider is better but not in the rain so find something in between like some rapters|||look for kuhmo tires and also try tire rack.com|||the way you drive, I don't think you have to worry about new tires, i'd start looking for a new engine. Anyways, about any new tire will be good, the people at discount tire are pretty good about telling you what tires are worth buying and what tires are good enough for the price. After doing a lot of research on tires (i drive a bmw) when I went to discount tire they told me the same exact thing I had been researching. They know their stuff and don't try to screw you over.

Should I buy tires online? is it smart move?

I have two choices.

A.) I can either buy some really nice (high quality) yokohama tires. A set wil cost $200from Discount Tire.com.80k warranty tire. They will deliiver to my door. FREE SHIPPING. I can have a certified mechanic mount and balance them for extra $50 bucks. Total price will be $250 plus tax.

B.) Or I can buy the Primewell(low quality) cheapo tires from Firestone for $200 plus mounting and balancing. 40,000k warranty tire.Total cost $250.

If I bought those same yokohama tires from Firestone, Tire kingdom, or any store..they would cost me $400! This is because when you buy online you get tires for wholesale. I plan on driving my car for another 100k.

The problem is this: If the tire if faulty or breaks down...i can at least drive to the store and havethem replace or fix the tire.

If I buy tires online..if tire is faulty or anything wrong with tire I have to ship the tire back to the online site.

Whats the better deal?|||I don't see why not. Seems like the best way to go because you can read people's reviews beforehand and know for sure you are getting a good tire. Good thing about buying online is the fact that you can look at many different websites and compare prices so you know you are not being ripped off.|||I find that you get so much better customer support with buying online. They have a burden of not being next door, so they go out of the way to make the entire experience much more pleasent for you.

I have a log dedicated to buying tires online, check it out.

I have never had a problem. Can't say anything about the others.|||As someone who works in the tire industry I know the scenario you painted above is an exageration - and it also answers itself so I don't know why you even posted it.|||Always buy from a dealer from your hometown, you will spend more in the long run buying on-line.

Why is Wal-Mart jacking up prices during a recession after they have killed so many smaller stores.?

Is anyone else noticing about a 25%price increase at Wal-Marts. Look at automotive, tires, Compare to discount tire.|||If you really believe they are intentionally raising prices JUST because we're in bad economic times-I can't help you...no business even as clueless as Walmart is anymore would do that. That said, I'm a total tightwad and do most of the shopping for our household. I worked for WM for a few years (plus a few other retailers). If you do see something going up by 25%, it's not the store doing this as much as the producer of the product. The price is then raised at store level as a reflection of the price increase-I'm sure you've heard the saying "passing the cost on to the customer." Retailers prices always have some profit margin built in but to change that margin by much of anything only happens in rare occasions, but again when it does it's only in small amounts-nothing close to the 25% you point out.

By pointing out you've seen this 25% increase in something you obviously know what the old price was. Why not ask a manager about this to see if it's a pricing error or a true jump in price. Heck, with that much of a jump in price why even care...just go get the item somewhere else. Jump on the bandwagon with so many others who are learning Walmart is far from the only game in town with good prices. A good consumer "knows" what a good price is. You obviously know what the price was so now all you have to do is find the same or better price elsewhere and make your purchase. You vote with your dollar and that's the only thing big companies understand at the end of the day.|||In business terms it's called "dumping" and I'm fairly certain that it may be an illegal practice in some countries. Involving selling at lower prices than everyone else until eventually developing a monopolistic competition over the market, this is followed by jacking up prices to "whatever the market will bear", as they say, simply because they can by that point. Standard Oil really set the 'standard' for that I'm afraid. It's a practice which lacks ethics and there should be better laws put in place to guard against it in my opinion. When SONY (Standard Oil of New York) was being persecuted for it, they were able to escape the treason charges simply by claiming that they would stop, and then moving to another state thus changing their business name, where they kept up the practise concealed as Standard Oil of New Jersey, Standard Oil of Ohio, etc. They're still getting away with it actually. But Walmart is the more obvious example of the two. The federal reserve controls the inflation rate by controlling the money supply, inflation being around 2.72% lately, so of course that plays a big part as well. The more money out there in circulation, the less it's worth, therefore prices have to rise to reflect lack of spending power in that money. Things are not going well economically lately, there are many unethical reasons for that but I am keeping hope alive that we're heading for improvements, probably and preferably sooner than later.

Winter tires that are as good as Blizzaks?

Okay, so I am in Chicago where winters last a lifetime.

Meteorologists predict it to start snowing by mid or late November.

I need tires in this size: 195/55/15, I called Firestone, NTB, and Discount Tire Co.

Both Firestone and Discount Tire quoted me ~ $550 - $570 (Lifetime warranty, mounted, tax, disposal, everything) for a set of 3 Blizzaks installed. (NTB wanted near $700 I was like, eff that yo!)

My dad said he'd pay $200 and i pay for the rest (which is very cool of him); however, he said for me to try to find some "off brand" tires. Not to just go with the name Bridgestone because i like their TV ads.

So, what are some cheaper winter tires in either 195/55/15 or 195/60/15 that are as good as Blizzaks if not better, and where can i get them? Much thanks.

****Aditional Details:

-Chicago, IL gets cold and lots of snow

-Car is a 94 Acura Integra LS

-My rims are the 2000 Civic Si rims

-I'd keep my rims, not getting steelies

-Im probably going to do a sweet burnout before getting these tires.

-I do a LOT of highway driving, my college and house are right off I-55. And i have class 4 times a week.

-During summer (or when snow melts) i'll be buying new rims and summer/all season tires for my nice rims, and i'll have my Si Rims with Blizzaks as my "winter" rims/tire combo.

Thanks. :)|||I would go with the Blizzak tires and get them from discount because they have a true warranty that will not be prorated like firestone will do to you and you really are getting a good price..|||Nothing out there as good as the Blizzaks, Michelin x-ice come close, but are more expensive.

Check tirerack.com for their prices.

They list WS 60 Blizzaks for $87/tire and Dunlop Graspix for $74/tire in your size.

Davis County Utah, Where do you shop for tires?

Discount Tire? Which one?

Big O? Which one?

Les Schwab? Which one?

Someplace else? where?

thanks|||I call them all and then go with the best price for the best tire.

Did Discount tire do a good job for me?

I had a flat tire. Towed the car to discount car company. They found a puncture but no nail or anything stuck in the tire. They patched, did a free flat fix. Two days later the same tire started leaking air. I took it to same shop again. They looked at it and told me I have the bad luck of having another puncture right next to the earlier patch. Since they are too close, cannot patch again and the tire cannot be saved. Pressured me to buy a new tire. What do you experts think? Are they trying to sell a new tire rather than fix the puncture? I cannot imagine having two punctures on the same tire in the span of two days right next to each other. Did they do a bad job of patching up in the first instance?

Thanks|||I can't speak for them, but if it were ME fixing it, I'd just buzz the patch off that was put there and then put a new patch on that covers both punctures. How hard could that be? The only reason that would prevent patching a tire would normally be if the hole is in the sidewall-you can't patch those. But if you have two holes very close together and they're in the tread area, why not patch them both? Hmm. Just my .02|||It's possible, but unlikely. Things like that happen, it's a bummer but it happens. I would recommend taking the tire to another shop and getting a second opinion because nobody out here in yahoo-land will be able to actually see the problem.|||I don't think they care enough to upsell you for just 1 tire. There are bigger fish and better profit margins elsewhere if they wanted to rip you off (a fake brake and rotor job for example).

Next time you get tires, get one with a road hazard warranty then bad luck or not, you won't feel ripped off. (costco's hazard warranty is included as part of their package)

2003 VW Passat New Tires?

I have a 2003 VW Passat GLS Front wheel drive. I bought the car used from a VW Dealer in 2006. It came with new tires it was a weird brand that I have never seen before. Not long after I bought it the rubber started to come off my tires in chunks. So I took them to Discount Tire that carried that brand of tires and they offered to replace the tire that was defective or credit me money on all four tires. I took the credit and bought the Goodyear Triple Tread Assurance Tires. Discount Tire installed them and everything seemed great the tires handled awesome in the wintertime I live up in Minnesota by the way. I always was on top of my rotations for the tires. Last month when I went to get them rotated they said I should start looking into getting new tires which I expected because I got about 60,000 miles on them. I was really happy with the good years so I was thinking I would probably get the same ones again. Well today I went to Sam's Club and I thought well while I'm here I will go and see what they charge for the Goodyear tires. When I walk in I ask the guy if they have the Triple Assurance Tires he says yes and ask what type of vehicle are they for. I tell him and he says that they would not mount those tires on my car because they are not designed to support the weight of a European vw car. I said well those are the tires I have on my car right now and he said that if I would go and look at my tires that they would be wore down on a angle and that is true I knew before I went in that the tires were wore on a angle. The guy then recommends me the Dunlop Signature 91H tire. Now that I'm home I have done some research and found that the Dunlop Signature is a Touring tire. I'm hopping to get a tire that is more performance driven then touring. Do you think I should believe the Sam's Club guy? If anyone has any suggestions on what tires would be the best for my car that would be great. Remember they need to also be good in the winter to. Sorry about the long explanation. Thanks for the help Everyone.|||It sounds like the Goodyear's were a good tire. A 2003 passat does require a 91H tire.(91 being the load rating and H the speed rating)VW does extensive testing with tires and anything with a lower rating could be unsafe. You can go higher, but not lower. Tirerack.com is a good source for you to do research on all types of brands.|||and you had them how long of time 60,000 miles did you feel they drove bad or didnt get the miles sure bet he had more Dunlop Signature for a higher price don tbuy tire at off neat shop like sam or walmarts go to a real tire store prices wil be real close you like what you had buy more of them im a tire guy my trade what i say to peopel is cl three places know your size its on driver door sticker ask whats your cheapest tire in that size an dafter they tel you then ask what else you have and that next tire wil be a better longer lasting tire my self prefer a flat looking tread over a rounded edge type an dyou can press down on bear tire if its push in easy its cheap and short life shop for the best or type you like type into searchbox

best touring tire

best all season tire

best handling tire

best winter tire

things like that wil bring up best an d go from there shop a round for prices|||Check out the "Michelin" brand tires. They provide reasonable pricing with no compromising in performance. The Pilot %26amp; Primacy are a couple of subcategories to consider. Sam's may have them, yet Costco carries them for sure. Do a quick search on Costco website, see if you like the tread configuration. As you know, do an alignment, especially if you intend to change all four tires, and always get the size meant for your specific tire rims.|||hhhhhhhh|||Go onto tirerack.com, there are many choices. The nimrod from Sam's is full of horsedung. There is no such thing as a tire not "designed to support the weight of a European vw car." There are domestic cars out there that weigh significantly more than a Passat.
